Idea

MACus was founded on the belief that digital platforms should bring people closer instead of commercializing every interaction.
The goal was to create a social economy where money plays a secondary role and people help each other through favors.
Users exchange services or goods based on trust and reciprocity, using MACus Coins only as an internal balance mechanism rather than real currency.
The vision was to revive a sense of community and cooperation in a digital world dominated by transactions.

Solution

We designed and built a native mobile platform that enables users to offer and request favors within a trusted local community called the MACus Clan.
Profiles, favor listings, chat, reviews, and moderation tools are combined into a single coherent experience. A controlled coin system supports fair exchange without turning the platform into a traditional marketplace.
An admin panel and moderation workflows ensure safety, quality, and long term scalability.

Step 5

Deployment

We explored the social vision together with the founders and translated it into a feasible digital concept. Workshops and ideation sessions helped define an MVP that stayed true to the mission.
We researched community driven platforms and designed a user experience centered around trust, simplicity, and human connection. The clan concept shaped navigation, visuals, and interactions.
Native Android and iOS apps were built using structured architectural patterns. Optimistic UI and real time communication ensured fast and responsive interactions. Development followed an agile sprint based approach.
End to end testing covered positive and negative scenarios across devices and operating systems. Special focus was placed on chat reliability, favor flows, and notifications.
The apps were released on Google Play and the Apple App Store after passing review. Version one was delivered within six months.

Main Features

User Authentication and Profile Management

MACus allows users to join using social logins with Apple, Google, or Facebook, as well as email based registration.
After signing up, users are guided through an onboarding flow that explains the clan concept and encourages initial participation.
Each user creates a personal profile including descriptions, images, and offered favors or skills. Profiles can be edited at any time, allowing users to add new favors, update existing ones, or remove outdated information.
This profile centric approach builds transparency and trust within the community and forms the basis for all interactions.

User Authentication and Profile Management

Explore Favors

The explore feature enables users to find help in a simple and intuitive way. A structured list view displays relevant favors with key information such as category and distance.
In addition, a swipe based full screen view offers a more playful discovery experience focused on people rather than transactions.
From both views, users can quickly access profiles, start conversations, or send favor requests, keeping the path from discovery to interaction short and frictionless.

Favor Management

Favor management gives users a clear overview of all favors they are involved in, whether they are giving or receiving help.
Favors are organized by status such as requested, active, or completed, making it easy to stay informed. Users can create new requests or reuse existing ones to save time. Each favor includes a detailed view with descriptions, participants, and an integrated chat for coordination and updates.
This ensures clarity and flexibility throughout the entire favor lifecycle.

Favor Management

Review System

After a favor is completed, both parties rate each other across multiple categories such as communication and reliability. Short written feedback and image uploads can be added to document the outcome.
These reviews help other users make informed decisions and encourage respectful behavior within the clan.
All ratings are monitored through the admin panel to maintain fairness and quality across the platform.

The Clan Hood

The Clan Hood is a shared community space where users post results of favors, share everyday tips, and engage with other clan members. Content can be commented on and rated, encouraging interaction beyond direct exchanges.
This feature strengthens the sense of belonging and reinforces the idea of MACus as a social economy built on mutual support rather than personal gain.

Main Challenge

The biggest challenge was designing a marketplace that enables exchange and participation without turning into a traditional commercial system. The concept of MACus Coins and favors needed to feel meaningful and fair without mimicking money or transactional behavior.
This required careful UX decisions to balance visibility, motivation, and trust while preserving the platform's social and value driven mission. Every design choice influenced how users perceived fairness and intention.
The system had to scale and remain usable without undermining the non commercial principles at its core.

What We Learned

We learned that social platforms require strong conceptual clarity before implementation. Design thinking workshops and repeated validation with stakeholders were essential to test assumptions, align expectations, and keep the product true to its mission while evolving.

Why This Matters for Our Partners

These learnings help us build platforms that prioritize values and community without sacrificing usability or scalability.
Partners benefit from products that remain authentic while still supporting growth and long term adoption.

Our Advice

If your product challenges existing models, protect the core idea early. Every feature decision should reinforce the mission, not dilute it.

Most Special Step

Being the partner for MACus was special because of the idea behind the product. MACus was created to challenge the assumption that every digital interaction must be monetized. This required a different mindset and a higher level of responsibility in every design and product decision.
Our task was not to build another marketplace, but to translate a social vision into a digital product without diluting its meaning. Each feature had to support cooperation, trust, and reciprocity instead of profit. This influenced how profiles were designed, how favors were requested, how feedback was shared, and how the internal coin logic was handled without turning it into a currency.
What made this step truly special was the close collaboration with the founders and the shared belief that technology can strengthen communities when designed with intention. We approached MACus as the foundation of a movement that could scale from small villages to large cities while preserving its values.
The result is more than an app. It is a scalable foundation for a new social economy, built with care, responsibility, and respect for human interaction.
